VAC/GMHC, People Living with HIV/AIDS Victoria, the AIDS Memorial Candlelight Vigil and Quilt Project Melbourne, the Catholic AIDS Ministry, Straight Arrows and Positive Women are collaborating to host the annual World AIDS Day Memorial Event at the Positive Living Centre (PLC).
The evening will include the World AIDS Day Remembrance Ceremony, where we remember all those we have loved and lost throughout the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Memorial Quilts, the PLWHA Legends Exhibition, a display of Art from clients of the PLC and various other presentations will be on display throughout AIDS Awareness Week.
The special guest speaker this year will be our World AIDS Day Ambassador, Rachel Berger. Entertainment will be provided by:
- Jon Jackson
- Jade Leonard
- The Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus
- Luke Gallagher, who hosted last year’s event, will return as MC.
The Memorial event is a very meaningful event for many within the community. The evening will take the audience on a journey, balancing what may be an emotional experience with the need for people to take time to reflect, remember and express themselves in a unique and supportive environment.
The heart of the evening, the Remembrance Ceremony itself, is aimed at providing a mark of respect to those who have passed away and is sensitive to the needs of the many people involved in commemorating their loved ones in a sympathetic and compassionate manner.
This event is open to all, including those infected and affected by HIV.
Admission is free and bookings are not required. Finger food will be provided and drinks will be available for purchase.
The PLC will open at 5.00pm with the event commencing promptly at 6.30pm.
